BreastScreen and women aged under 50
- Always contoversial
- In Australia women are allowed access if they call - 13250
- The cancer incidence and therefore detection in this group is lower than women aged 50-69
- The incidence in women aged 40-44 is 119 per 100,000 and for women aged 45-49 is 182/100000 and for women in the "target" group it is 236-332 per 100,000
- The BreastScreen program is free
- From 1 July 2005 ,a new clinical governance committee has been established
- For women who underwent a screen in NSW, the cancer detection rate is 57.6/10,000 women screened (first round) and 32.4/10,000 in subsequent rounds.
- The overall cancer detection rate per 10,000 screens is 28.1, 57.1, 76.9 and 127 per 10,0000 screens for women aged 40-49,50-59,60-69 and 70-79 respectively
- An urgent review of BreastScreen Australia is required including obtaining evidence of outcomes after treatment
- The last statistics from BreastSCreen Australia was in 1998. Time for an update.
